Focal Points Group: XUNICEF FOLLOW-UP TO THE ONLINE CONFERENCE

Dear Ms. Fore,

The members of XUNICEF deeply appreciated your outreach through the video conference on Monday April 6th. In that call you made clear your wish to bring together all parts of the UNICEF family, including our XUNICEF network of former staff of UNICEF and UNICEF National Committees, in a concerted effort to meet the challenges posed by COVID-19.

We are with you in this effort and will do whatever possible to help.

In preparation for the video conference many of our members contributed their ideas. Following the inspiring dialogue that day, we received many more comments. In all, well over 50 members gave us suggestions on ways we could help. A small team then pulled these various ideas together in the attached document. Naturally, the team could not include every idea, but still were able to capture the main action points for the weeks ahead.

The team organized the points as responses to three questions:

What and how can we contribute to UNICEF's efforts on COVID-19?

How can UNICEF enable us to help?

What suggestions do we have for strengthening UNICEF’s Plan of Action?

I am also pleased to report that in response to a subsequent request by your office, we are forming a small global working group on the special needs of girls and women in the face of COVID-19. Niloufar Pourzand is organizing this group on our side and will continue to be in close contact with Lauren Rumble on UNICEF’s side.

Once again, many thanks for your outreach and consideration of our ideas. We look forward to your kind answer and to working together with you and your team in implementing these and other steps.

With our very best regards,

The XUNICEF Focal Points Group on COVID-19:

David Bull, Misrak Elias, Sree Gururaja, Tom McDermott, Gianni Murzi, Janet Nelson, Niloufar Pourzand, Mary Racelis
